My Interview with Perla Hudson: By Sandra Bailey
You are married to one of the world's most recognisable Guitar players, the top hatted one & Guitar hero Slash! Tell us what that is like?
Whats it like being married to your husband? It's the same as being married to Slash in that respect as he is my husband (and yes its not normal to most, but it is my normal.) the catch is, I have to share him with the world and this can get taxing sometimes for me.
Do you enjoy going on tour with Slash & your boys?
I enjoy Anytime as a family together. Traveling can get hard sometimes as we can go from airport to venue to hotel to airport all within 24 hours. But Im not complaining. I love my family and I go to great extremes to keep us all together! We have to coordinate days off from school and the kids are really good at doing their homework on the road. Ok, so sometimes we have to make them but they are pretty good about it. As you all know, going through the airport with kids can be a pain (if you haven't done it yourself im sure you've seen families at the airport!) My kids are amazing! Cash is in charge of everyones shoes, and London is in charge of putting out trays for everyone and Foxy (our dog) when she travels with us. Slash is always off getting patted down as he cant go through metal detectors because of the device implanted in his heart. So Im on my own. Sometimes my cousin, or Slashs security or when Im lucky the nanny is with us but not always! They are really good boys at airports, restaurants, shows, basically anything adult oriented. Its regular kids stuff that they go crazy at. You should hear them running around this house right now! Hey, heres London, complaining about having to practice his guitar....
While touring which do you prefer, to fly or travel on the tour bus?
I love being in Europe and going to sleep on the bus and waking up in a whole new country! It always feels like such an adventure! Really, I don't mind how we get there. I do like having a few hours off to relax and check out the sights a bit so I don't really care how we get there!
What are the most beautiful places you have been to while on tour?
Australia & Spain are beautiful! I really enjoyed Japan! The shopping is amazing in Tokyo and the Disneyland is so organized, clean and high tech, it makes ours look like Disney ghetto. And partying in Ropongi I must say is some of the best partying ive ever done in the world!
You have two beautiful boys with Slash. London who is 8 & Cash whom is 6, do you have any plans to have any more children?
Never say never, but as of today, I am certainly not planning on it.
Pregnancy was really hard on you both times, tell me about that?
Where to start?? Before London, lets say I didn't live the healthiest lifestyle therefore I thought being pregnant gave me a license to EAT! I also bled, I was what they call a "placenta previa" so I was on bed rest the whole time. It was very scary. I didn't have healthy eating habits, Mcdonalds was my favorite breakfast...nasty!! And I couldn't exercise at all, or get out of bed, so I gained 100 pounds. And he was breach so I had a c-section. Which I am now convinced that you heal faster and better after a vaginal birth. So after I had London I weighed 236 pounds. Disgusting!!!!! I also have a back injury I had as a child that really acted up when I gained all the weight so it was really tough. Breast feeding was a bitch as my nipples got so bloody huge! And London couldn't breast feed, poor little guy. It got to a point where I went to a lactation specialist and she had me hang a little bag of breastmilk off my neck on my back with little tubes coming to each of my nipples for the little guy to suck on. I was so sad I couldn't do it, but I tried it all! At the end of the day he had breast milk till 10 months, don't ask me how I did it! As for Cash, I was 10 pounds from being back to my normal weight and BOOM, I got pregnant again! Back to back pregnancies are tough. They are a little over a year apart. So here I went again all hormonal fat and coo koo. This time I gained 80 but this pregnancy was harder emotionally as Slash was on the road with Velvet Revolver and I went through most of it on my own. Even when we had Cash, Slash had to leave me in the hospital to fly off to a gig. Very hard. I was on my own with a newborn and another little guy still in diapers. Yes I had help but its not the same. I just wanted my husbands support. Cash was breach as well so I had another csection. Since having babies Ive had 3 hernias and my abdominal walls are completely messed up. Ive repaired the 3 hernias and had a tummy tuck, for asthetic reasons as well as my health! All the tares in my walls were not good. And my boobs...holy shit! I went from a D to an H. Yes, count it out...D E F G H!!!!!! Talk about huge! Ive since then had a reduction and a lift...thank god! I felt like I belonged on the cover of National Geographic Magazine...
I know that your an animal lover as is Slash, how many pets do you guys have now?
I try to keep it to a minimum since we are always traveling. And im not having pets (or kids for that matter) for other people to take care of them. But as it stands we have a crazy Bengal cat named Kitty-sue (I swear she thinks she is Slashs mistress) An anaconda named Sam, he lives in the gym but is getting a little too big to care for at home. My poor cousin Yohama had to feed him the other day. Kill a rat and the fucker wasn't hungry! We also have a goldfish Cash won at a fair almost 2 years ago. The damn thing is the size of a carp and on its 4th tank! Her name is Kim and she lives with 2 little bottom dwellers that eat her poop. And then there is my best friend Foxy Brown. She is a 9 year old Pomeranian that I swear is part human.
